3 Classic Books You Need To Read

There are a number of books that could be considered classics. In fact, there are many different lists out there of the top classic books of all time. We all have our particular favourites and I wanted to share my three favourites with you today – here are three classic books I think everyone should read.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

This is my most favourite book of all time. I believe it to be a timeless classic and I think every girl or woman can see a bit of herself in at least one of the March sisters. My favourite has always been and always will be Jo – just because she doesn’t conform to societal standards of the day. I feel that every woman should read this – and even men too!

Synopsis | Little Women is one of the best-loved children’s stories of all time, based on the author’s own youthful experiences. It describes the family of the four March sisters living in a small New England community. Meg, the eldest, is pretty and wishes to be a lady; Jo, at fifteen is ungainly and unconventional with an ambition to be an author; Beth is a delicate child of thirteen with a taste for music and Amy is a blonde beauty of twelve. The story of their domestic adventures, their attempts to increase the family income, their friendship with the neighbouring Laurence family, and their later love affairs remains as fresh and beguiling as ever.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

Such an iconic tale that we all know about from a young age. We all know the tale but nothing beats reading the words for yourself. Dickens was an incredible author and this is an amazing read.

Synopsis | Ebenezer Scrooge is a miserly old skinflint. He hates everyone, especially children. But at Christmas three ghosts come to visit him, scare him into mending his ways, and he finds, as he celebrates with Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim and their family, that geniality brings its own reward.

Heidi by Johanna Spyri

I remember reading this cover to cover when I was younger and then going back to the beginning and starting again. I loved this so much and I still do. I feel that it is not as well known a classic as the other two books I’ve mentioned but I definitely feel everyone should give it a read.

Synopsis | Heidi is a Swiss work of fiction, originally published in two parts as Heidi’s years of learning and travel and Heidi makes use of what she has learned. It is a novel about the events in the life of a young girl in her grandfather’s care, in the Swiss Alps. It was written as a book “for children and those who love children” in 1880 by Swiss author Johanna Spyri. Heidi is one of the best-selling books ever written and is among the best-known works of Swiss literature.

These three books mean a lot to me. A Christmas carol I read and watched every Christmas and has always been mega festive! Little women my mum used to read to me before bed and the same with Heidi. Heidi reminds me of beautiful spring days watering our garden xx
