Here is my first author spotlight – a guest post from Bethany Dempsey over at The Dempsey Diaries. She is a social media sensation with over 11k Facebook followers and here’s a post with her thoughts about releasing her first book…
Me… A writer, an AUTHOR? I MEAN…. I would of laughed ten years ago. SHIT.. I laughed just writing that now.
I got a B in GCSE English, and I remember being told FIRMLY that my homework of ‘instructions on how to build a fire’ really DID need condensing from 6 sheets of a4, back and front, and it didn’t also need added illustrations.
But here I am, my first book.
When I begun my parenting journey, I was a little STUCK for people to rant too, too cheap to pay for therapy, writing became my outlet.. Then along came my little labour of love “SO YOU’RE PREGNANT-NOW WHAT?”
And it came flying back to me – the ‘don’t ramble’ ‘condense it down’.
So its short and sweet, like me,(or blunt and to the point, also like me!) A hard hitting fact book, telling people ONLY what they need to hear, things most people are too polite to say. Illustrated by what could only be a 6year old. Just kiddin’, I did that too.
Sure it’s not perfect. But it’s mine, a book for pregnant parents to find out ALL OF THE INS AND OUTS. Quickly, simply and visually attractive.
No novel about how your boobs change, oh no.. Just a page about burger nips, illustrated with burgers.. Of course.
So I might not be your average author. But I’m an author all the same, so much so, it might even make the Instagram bio.
