Being quite the fan of the man himself, I had extremely high hopes for this book – but did it match up to my expectations?

But when a local property developer shows up dead, ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ find themselves in the middle of their first live case.

The four friends, Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron, might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it’s too late?

My Review

Knowing the author from his TV show and loving his personality, I was intrigued to see how his debut novel faired. I enjoyed the plot of this book but felt the storyline dragged a little in places and I got a little confused at times as to had done what and who was who.

I didn’t see the ending coming so loved how the story was tied up neatly but I would have loved the story to have had a little more oomph at times as I found myself finding it a little slow before ramping up the pace and then slowing right down again.

I’m afraid that, try as I might, I just couldn’t get into the hype. I didn’t understand what all the big hoohah was about. I will try re-reading it again in the future and it has apparently been optioned for a movie which I will be keen to watch so lets wait and see.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars.

  1. I read this book last year and for me it definitely lived up to the hype. Richard has been writing a second book in the series during lock down and I’m excited to read that too!

That’s a shame that you couldn’t get that into it. I would read it knowing who he is and loving his personality, but it’s a shame that doesn’t help x
